Day two card and giveaway with Faber Castell DMC!

Here we are on day two of our 7 day giveaway/card making week.

Here's today's card made with one of my stamps from the Piccadilly Square Collection and Gelatos, plus spray textile paint from Tulip.

Step outs below... 

 

In step one, you'll see I used watercolor paper, a paper doilly and the Tulip brand textile paint in a spray bottle to create a stenciled textural design. 

Next, I cut the paper into 2" strips, lined them up side by side and stamped using my Piccadilly Square Stamp and a black Gelato. I stamped randomly, turning the stamp sideways for some and upright for others. Notice I overlapped the design onto different pieces. When the Gelato was dry enough, I then cut the strips into 2" squares. Taking a light blue Gelato, I accented the edges just a bit to create "pop".

Finally, I choose which of the squares I wanted to use then glued them onto a 5x5 card base, choosing a hue which would compliment but not compete with the design.

Final step- I used a square of fabric from my Couleur Vie collection with Henry Glass and Fiskars pinking shears to add on final touch. I glued it onto the back side of the card so you can still see it when the card is open. I generally like to add my sentiments on the inside to allow the outside become a mini art piece - nice for displaying. I also sign the back personally, proving it's handmade! ; )

7 days of fun give-aways!

Hi all, here's with a fun card design made with my new stamps and with gelatos for the wonderful, scrummy backgound. There is something so delicious about these gelatos...so satisfying in the application and the results. I'm a painter and just LOVE how these work with my new stamp line, available on HSN.com. They glide on just like lipstick then smudge...just like lipstick...but melt into vibrant color when you add a bit of water with a brush or a sponge. I think the highly textured background sets a nice stage for the cleanly stamped design, made with an inking pad. Variety is one of the necessary ingredients for a compelling design.

More Scoreboard fun with Sizzix and Eileen Hull's dies

I'm participating in a blog hop to show off the many ways of using my friend Eileen Hull's new product line with Sizzix! It's called SCOREBOARDS ™ and they are a  ton of fun to use because of their versatility. This week's projects are created around her pocket notebook die. (Shown here, as the base piece.)This came in handy when designing my purse sized color reference minibook.

I used the Sizzix/Eileen Hull's Scoreboard dies:

Brenda Pinnick Scrapper Keeper album (QVC.com) (now available only in the UK) papers and elements

I glued the smaller sized, Box with Flap onto the bigger Notebook die to create a place for stickynotes or other color reference. Here, I used a tag from my Scrapper Keeper kit and added some pretty ribbons.

I use these minibooks for color reference as I work. I build a color palette for each new collection of art and keep it filed with my print-offs, mock-ups, etc. You could use this for shopping, wardrobe building, crafting, designing...whatever you wish! 

I purchase paint fan books from different paint companies and cut them up to create my library of color swatches. I keep them sorted by color family, chroma and tints. It's so handy for experimenting with color and helps you get out of your color rut! (you know who you are...)  

Of course, I know you've already thought of a million more uses! So...get busy!

I'm crazy busy right now, getting ready for the biggest time of year in art licensing. Making art is only a fraction of what takes place in a professional studio. There's scanning, mock-ups, photos, marketing materials and press releases to be done. Trying to juggle everything at once has once again, gotten me frazzled! Of course, there's the holidays, too!!

I hope you're taking some time for relaxing during this busy time of year. Remember to feed your creative soul!

More Owls!!!

Here's the link! http://brendapinnick.typepad.com/brenda_pinnick_news_ideas/2008/12/owl-pattern-freebie.html so  you can make your own festive owls for scarring or delighting  your trick or treaters or Thanksgiving guests!

You will be cutting two of the main owl shape and stitching or gluing the sides together. The back piece is simply folded in half vertically to create a "stand". You can use these owls as vase covers, too. I like the idea of some simple twigs or natural elements stuck in the vase. 

I used various papers from my many different kits sold via QVC over the last 3 years including Sucerie, Brenda Pinnick Signature, Initially Yours, Village Color. I encourage you to USE YOUR STASH! And if you need some color inspiration to get you going, dig into my Color U series and go at it! I've given some beautiful color palettes in my November series for you to craft with. Melissa's pug doll give-away

My buddy Melissa is having a give-away this weekend. If you're a fan of pugs, like our family is, or just a fan of dogs or little dolls...this is so cute. She made the pug art using block printing techniques then had it reproduced onto fabric via Spoonflower, a new print on demand textile source. Here's a snapshot of her pug doll...
